Chris Payne

Tenor Trombone

Chris's story in brass banding began at the age of six, when he took up the trombone in the Salvation Army youth brass bands. It was an early grounding in ensemble playing and musical community that has stayed with him ever since.

At sixteen, he joined HM Royal Marines Band as a solo trombonist, beginning a career that took him around the world. Among the highlights are solo performances at Buckingham Palace, the Royal Albert Hall and Birmingham Conservatoire. His talent was recognised early, reaching the final of the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition and earning an ARCM diploma.

Chris continues to be an active presence in the brass band world, recently deputising for championship section bands in concerts and contests. A player who brings a professional's polish and a lifelong banding enthusiast's love of the movement to every engagement.

Chris is thrilled to be joining Brunel Brass and is looking forward to becoming part of the band. He's keen to get involved in the rehearsal room, share the stage at concerts, and test himself in the contest arena alongside his new bandmates.
